Who am I?

Hey there! I am a psychologist and have been working with the team at Psychology4life for several years now. Young people, adults, men and women come and talk to me here at Psychology4life for many reasons;

  • Maybe because they are finding that worrying is taking over their life,

  • They are tired of feeling sad and low.

  • Some people talk about how their relationships with family or friends are not going well,

  • That they have lost something or someone important.

  • Other times, people come and talk about the fact that though their life looks ok on the outside, it feels like something’s missing, or not quite right on the inside.

 

As a wise teenager once said; - 

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

(Ferris Bueller, 1986).

Counselling is a chance to stop, and look around at your life, do a stocktake if you like. We talk about what’s working and what’s not. We plan how you can try different ways to manage the unhelpful thoughts, difficult feelings and then do what matters in your life.

I have been trained in, and use a lot of, different counselling theories including cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, solution focused therapy and mindfulness (ACT) techniques. Besides a Masters in Psychology, I have undertaken extra training in family therapy, and so at times, we can choose to invite other people, like family members, into a session. From time to time, I also run group programs, such as ‘Tuning in to Kids: emotionally intelligent parenting’, and ‘From Alarm to Calm: Living well with Anxiety’.

Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself.

I believe we can live a rich, meaningful life filled with vitality, if we can figure out the kind of person we want to be, then take clear steps towards becoming that person. I work hard to be a guide in this journey who is active, warm, down to earth, a little bit challenging, (-: and always encouraging of people's strengths and talents.
